Paul Motor Company, Charleston, at night

History

Established in Charleston, 1918.

Our emblem

The palmetto is the emblem of South Carolina, where our story began.

When the British attacked Charleston in 1776, its defenders on Sullivan's Island built their fort from palmetto logs. The soft, resilient wood absorbed the cannon fire, and the fort held. The palmetto has been South Carolina's emblem ever since, a symbol of strength that bends but doesn't break.

The Palmetto also evokes the coastlines and warm climates where exceptional cars feel most at home. For us it stands for both: an enduring foundation and an appreciation for the remarkable.

History

More than a century of automobiles, integrity and family.

  1. 1918

After four years of investing in the early automobile trade through others, the Paul family decides to enter it directly. J. Robertson Paul, a Rhodes Scholar recently returned from Oxford, secures the Ford franchise for Charleston, South Carolina.

  2. 1919

The company is formally incorporated. Its charter sets out a purpose that still guides us today: “to buy, sell, lease, store and repair automobiles and motor vehicles of all kinds.”

  3. 1926

The business has grown to forty-four employees and opens a modern facility on Meeting Street. It has one of the best-equipped service shops in the state and a showroom for Ford and Lincoln.

  4. 1967

Under the second generation, led by C. Huiet Paul, the company opens a new facility on Morrison Drive. The founding principles of quality service and fair dealing remain unchanged.

  5. 2007

The founders’ great-grandsons, Jordan and Jeremy Paul, turn the company's focus to a single discipline: exotic and collector automobiles in the USA and Canada, and introduce its personal shopping service.

  6. 2019

Guillaume Decroocq joins the company and brings a new approach to leasing. He pairs expert advice with exceptional speed, offering clients a level of personal attention rarely found in this business. His work has been central to our growth among serious collectors and enthusiasts of exceptional cars.

  7. Today

Paul Motor Company is family-owned and based in Montréal. We do one thing, and we aim to do it better than anyone: leasing, selling and servicing exceptional cars. Our industry-leading processes are fully digital, our team is experienced, and our standards are the ones set in 1918. Nearly all of our clients come to us by referral, and most return.

Now

From Fords to Ferraris.

We began with Ford and Lincoln franchises. Today, Ferrari is the marque we finance most, because these cars hold their value and prove reliable over time. A century later, our tools and systems are fully modern, but the values behind every agreement have not changed.
